Stupid Question

It's not so much a specific area you need to measure. The length is mainly a general, overall look. Most guys measure their chin area. One side growing faster is totally normal. It can usually happen because you sleep on your side, so that side gets pushed down.

Everyone's facial hair grows a bit differently. But, at least for me, I tend to fall into what is typically viewed as "normal" in that area. So, yes, about 1/2" growth per month seems right. That is, indeed, typically in the chin area or down the middle. My sides or cheeks tend to lag behind that a little.

Concerning the variation in length you may have from side to side... For me, the zones of my facial hair have a little different color and texture. The sides are reddish and wavy while the middle is dark brown with some silver and is a little straighter. In addition, below my jaw line grows from left to right instead of more toward the middle (like it would with a "normal" beard). This makes the right corner of my beard tougher to keep up with as it always wants to bush out from growing in that direction. What I'm driving at here is that you could just have a similar growth pattern making it seem longer on one side than the other. Or, you may well just have a different (asymmetrical) growth rate. Either way, I'd consider it your normal and embrace it.

everyone's beard grows at different rates. My beard grows more than 1/2 " a month, but uneven and even in different directions. So the way I look at it is that it's whatever 2months means for you.
