My beard is very curly and thick. I mean like steel wool. Seriously. I'm fine with this, but the knots are almost too much. I have seen people call them "fairy" knots because they're so small. They're these imperceptibly tiny bumps in my beard hairs. If you look at them up close, they are, in fact, making little knots that must tighten over time until they're a bump in the hair shaft. I've been dealing with this by trimming clumps of knots as they appear, but wondering if there's a better way. I'm trying to maximize length, but with the curls this is difficult (my hairs are 2-3x longer when you pull them straight).
My regimen looks like something like this (Beardbrand stuff only):
- Wash/condition roughly 1x a week
- Beard oil every morning after shower
- Brush/comb every morning after shower
My beard is so curly that any additional dry combing/brushing, is basically impossible (not to mention painful). I avoid this by doing all my maintenance in the morning when the hairs are slightly damp.
I also picked up some utility balm.
