I have a very dry beard which also used to be very prone to knots, though not as bad as yours. Then i started conditioner washing my beard every morning and my beard became so soft the knots worked loose. Now they're not a problem anymore.
    Hope this may help.

Try washing with conditioner 6 days a week and wash and condition the 7th day. Maybe try gently combing it while it's loaded with conditioner. Keep it well oiled and use a wide toothed comb for grooming/detangling. Be careful about combing while wet because the hairs are extra stretchy and can break on you.

Thanks guys! I think you're right conditioner washing is the key here. Eric's video on this recently was also helpful. Never knew it worked like a light wash.

    Hi Daniel,
Was just wondering how the beard is coming along.
I continue to co wash every morning, and shampoo + condition once a week.
The curls continue to loosen and straighten out.

    Hey Nigel,

Thanks man! My beard is a lot softer when I condition daily, but I still get the knots. It turns out they even have a name, trichonodosis. No kidding. I guess it's a really common thing for people with natural curly hair. It makes sense, seeing as how my curly beard gets a lot of abuse from side sleeping and occasionally my kids pulling on it. I am also brushing less and finger combing more. Periodically I'll try and find where the knots are forming and cut them off. I lose some length but it's healthier overall.

I have found that dealing with any curls is easier the softer your beard is.
Co washing is main approach, but oil also helps a lot.
I have also found a beard balm which works really well. I know I shouldn't mention another supplier here, sorry Eric B, but Percy Nobleman has a balm which softens and conditions my beard really well.

    Hope this helps.
