First, great beard man! Have you tried some beard balm? That seems to work well.

Thanks, yeah i have tried beard balm and pretty much everything else, all that is from fluffing the beard out and then barely combing it down. But doing so causes the front to look good but my jawline and cheeks still remain super close to the face or curl inwards. The black lines here are how my beard wants to naturally grow which looks silly. Pretty much my entire beard will be inside the black lines. I'm not sure if there is a way to make it grow out either straight down or out and away rather than inwards.

Well, why not try and get to an experienced barber and see what they can do. If you do some research you should be able to find a good barber in your area that also has experience with beards. There's one in my area called Mr Cotton's shave... they got great reviews on yelp. A bit expensive but I'll give them a try in the near future. Maybe try and get to a good barber with beard experience and see what they can do.

I have, the suggestion was to trim it down (as I've done in the 1st post) because that gives me the fullest beard and a decent shape without any curls. The longer my beard gets the sides want to curl under the chin. As i said in my first post that was my first "full" beard so I basically just combed straight down and just let it go with no trimming except evening up the sides since my right side grows faster.

Since I've trimmed it down from 6 to about 1 inch again and am growing it back out I wasn't sure if maybe combing or brushing in a different direction would help in training the hairs to grow the way I want or if possibly trimming every couple of months would help it maintain its shape as it grows. You can see here about 3 months in the beard looks its best as its full but still has a good shape..but the by 4th month under you can already see the curls starting to form.  I'm currently brushing and combing down and back at an angle..pretty much the complete opposite of the curls. It might just be that a square beard isn't meant for me and I'd have to round it off instead.

Hmm.. From my experience, you can definitely comb it in order to "train" it to grow a certain way. However, I would't say it permanently learns. It's more of a temporary fix that you will have to continually do. I carry a a pocket comb around from time to time and comb it throughout the day. That tends to help.

If trying that ends up driving you crazy then maybe a rounded beard style would be best (as you already suggested)

Yeah I used to carry a comb around when it was a lot longer..but now that it's an inch a brush works better for me.. Any particular direction you think I should be combing/brushing it?

Have you tried working with a blow dryer and some styling balm or similar product? Use low heat and brush in the direction you want the hair to go.
